2-Day Mindful Self-Compassion Core Skills Training - Livestreaming available, Chapel Hill, NC, United States

with Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff

January 27, 2017 - January 28, 2017

Course Navigation

Research demonstrates that self-compassion is significantly linked to increased happiness, vitality, motivation and optimism and decreased anxiety, depression and stress. Even more promising, self-compassion has been demonstrated to be a mutable trait–cultivated through the practice of guided meditations and daily informal exercises and meditations. Participants of this two-day workshop will learn the core skills of the 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training, an empirically-supported program designed to cultivate self-compassion using meditation, daily life practices, lecture, group exercises and discussion. Self-compassion is an emotional skill that can be learned by anyone. You will be provided with essential tools for treating yourself in a kind, compassionate way whenever you suffer, fail, or feel inadequate. These practices can be instrumental to mental health practitioners both for their own self-care as well as helping clients. This workshop is relevant for the general public as well as practicing mental health professionals. After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Practice self-compassion in daily life
  • Understand the science of self-compassion
  • Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
  • Handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • Manage caregiver fatigue
  • Practice the art of savoring and self-appreciation
  • Teach simple self-compassion exercises to clients

Program activities include talks, meditation, experiential exercises, and group discussion. Participants will directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend the program.
