I have worked in mental health and emotional well being since 1991. After completing my BSc (Hons) Psychology Degree and working in the voluntary sector, I went on to train and work in Mental Health Nursing. Following this, I went on to train as a Cognitive Therapist at the Newcastle Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy Centre. I gained a diploma with distinction. I also began a Masters at Bangor University in Mindfulness Based Approaches and most latterly training in Compassion Focused Therapy with Paul Gilbert and also Transformational Chair Work.
I have worked as a psychotherapist in the UK since 1999, accredited with the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) - working with people with wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), social anxiety, panic, anger and low self confidence. I worked for the NHS for over 16 years, latterly as a Specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, before focusing on my private practice.
I began my personal mindfulness practice in 2002 and Mindful Self compassion practice in 2012. My mindfulness Teacher Training has been with Bangor University and I am also familiar with the Breathworks teachings and those of the Mindfulness Association. I attended the first Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher Training in the UK in 2014 and, for a second time, to deepen practice in 2016. I received my MSC Teacher Certification in September 2015. I am now proud to say I am also an MSC Trained Teacher for Teens and Young Adults. I love neuroscience and how this informs our work as best it can. I am currently completing my Certified Mindfulness Teacher training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.
I have taught:
MSC 8 week courses in Lincolnshire in the UK and Dublin, Ireland
MSC Intensives with Chris Germer and Christine Braehler June 2015 and with Christine Braehler in June 2016.
MSC 2 day Core Skills with Megan Leuchers in Glasgow in May 2016.
Compassion in all areas of my life really matters to me and so I began to look at communication. NVC (Non Violent Communication or Compassionate Communication) is a huge part of my life and I am currently continuing to train in this.
I love finding new ways to enhance well being and so I am also a Trained Laughter Yoga Leader and Teacher Trainer.
And I am returning to an earlier passion of being a trained massage therapist and being able to offer HEARTS which is a beautiful hands on practice.
There is no doubt that Mindful Self-Compassion really is a journey The MSC Intensive or MSC 8 week program are just the beginning. I have attended three MSC Intensives thus far as a participant and noticed a deepening each time. I have also attended the MSC Teacher Training twice to deepen my teaching. For me deeply knowing what it is like to be our own best friend is a gift that holds all others. And also knowing the hardships and obstacles that can arise is also such an important aspect too. Facilitating these beautiful trainings really is a privilege.
