A 5-day teacher training intensive in Making Friends with Yourself: A Mindful Self-Compassion Program for Teens and Young Adults is currently offered through the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute (MBPTI) for those who have already completed teacher training in the Mindful Self-Compassion program. Plans are underway to launch a Teacher Training program in 2017 open to those who have not trained in MSC. Teacher training offers an experiential review of the meditations, exercises, and activities in the 8-week program, an explanation of the intentions behind the adaptations that make this program developmentally appropriate for teens, group discussions that include the appropriate use of inquiry with teens, managing group dynamics and behaviors with teens, and the most effective teaching strategies for teaching self-compassion to teens. The training also integrates how to orient parents to the program to allow their teen to get the most benefit from the course. A presentation on the current state of the research on self-compassion and adolescents is included as well.
