Course Navigation

This 2-day experiential workshop is an introduction to Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), an empirically supported training programme based on the clinical perspective of Chris Germer PhD and the pioneering research of Kristin Neff PhD.

It provides a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in some of the key practices and exercises of the full 8-week MSC programme in an intensive 2-day format. Uniquely, this will be offered across two Saturdays, enabling participants to integrate the first session’s learning, prior to the second – with no need to take a day off work!

This training, held at The NHS Recovery College, within the Springfield University Hospital is provided for NHS staff, especially those working in the mental health sector or those struggling with symptoms of stress, burnout or care-givers fatigue.
However it is open to anyone interested in learning the life-transforming skills of self-compassion.

MSC combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional well-being. Research shows that self-compassion is strongly associated with lower levels of anxiety and depression, healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and more satisfying, compassionate relationships. Self-compassion includes the capacity to comfort, soothe and validate ourselves, but also to protect and provide for ourselves, and to motivate ourselves to achieve our goals.

Fortunately, self-compassion can be learned by anyone and this training is open to all. No previous experience with mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy or meditation is required to attend the training.

No matter what your position, whether you are a consultant or a member of the administration team, you are exposed to the pressures within the NHS. In MSC, we recognise our common humanity, thus we first and foremost address our needs as an individual; as a human being first. We will be paying particular attention to addressing and alleviating symptoms of burnout and care-givers fatigue.

We will have access to the beautiful grounds, so please bring suitable clothing and footwear for a lovely practice outside (weather permitting!).

Morning and afternoon refreshments are provided, however, please bring your own lunch as the canteen facilities are closed on the weekends.

There is a £50 discount for all NHS Trust members.

We look forward to welcoming you and members of your team, to this informative, supportive and inspiring training!
