Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an evidence-based program designed to cultivate self-compassion based on the work of psychologists Kristen Neff, PhD and Christopher Germer, PhD. Self-compassion is being supportive and kind to yourself as you would be to your closest friends or loved ones, especially when you’re stressed or upset. While many people believe that being hard on themselves is necessary to succeed in life, studies suggest just the opposite: self-compassion is a productive and healthier way to motivate yourself than self-criticism. A growing body of research indicates that self-compassion has many benefits, including happiness, resilience, creativity, and satisfying relationships, while experiencing less anxiety and depression.
MSC teaches principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments, challenging emotions, and relationship issues with kindness, authenticity, and courage. This online program includes short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices. Our goal is to promote the direct, personal experience of self-compassion and to provide on-the-spot skills to bring it into everyday life. No experience with mindfulness or meditation is required.
