Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression and stress. And self-compassion, even for those of us with a harsh inner critic, is easier to learn than you might think.
Self-compassion is simply compassion directed inwards, and MSC, through exercises and discussion, teaches us how to hold ourselves with tenderness and self-compassion when we need it most – when we fail, when we feel inadequate and are suffering.
Too often we tend to meet pain and challenge with harshness and self-criticism. Self-compassion allows us, instead, to be present and courageous in the face of physical and emotional pain rather than fighting it or turning away from it.
