8-week Mindful Self-Compassion Course
October 25 – December 13, 2018 with a 1/2 day retreat on November 24
Modern life comes with happiness and inevitable challenges. While we feel compassion for others who may be struggling, we rarely extend that compassion to ourselves. Instead we can be our own worst critics. Mindful Self- Compassion helps us shift the direction of our attention toourselves so that we receive the same caring we offer to others. In this way we can live our best lives even when life is difficult.
Whatis Mindful Self-Compassion?
Combining mindfulness and compassion practise,the Mindful Self-Compassion training program was developed by researcher Kristin Neff and psychologist Christopher Germer. Their research has shown that self-compassion greatly enhances emotional wellbeing and connection. It boosts happiness, reduces anxiety and depression, and can even help maintain healthy lifestyle habits.
With the full MSC workshop, you’ll learn:
– how to stop being so hard on yourself
– how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
– how to motivate yourself more effectively with
encouragement as opposed to criticism
– how to transform difficult relationships
Your guides for the course are Erin McCarthy and Scheherzade (Sher) Van Aarle. Both are trained in Mindful Self-Compassion from the Univerity of California (San Diego) and are long-time meditators.
Our group will meet at the beautiful Metta Movement and Meditation Studio at 5 Hamilton Avenue North in Ottawa on Thursdays from 7PM-9PM over 8 weeks (October 25, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Dec. 6, 13) with a half day retreat on November 24 from 9:30-2:00 pm.
Each class will include a discussion and practise. Each week you will learn practises for everyday life so that your knowledge and skill-set grows throughout the 8 weeks.
