This Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) course will be offered at Land of Buddha Medicine (LMB), a beautiful retreat center in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. LMB is located on 108 acres of Northern California coastal foothills, next to 10,000 acres of redwood forest preserved by the State of California. This is an ideal environment to learn and practice the skill of mindful self-compassion. MSC helps us recognize our challenging moments and face them with a kinder, more compassionate and sustainable response. Self-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience, which allows us to admit our shortcomings, motivate ourselves with kindness, forgive ourselves when needed, relate wholeheartedly to others, and be more authentically ourselves. It’s a courageous attitude that stands up to harm, including the harm that we unwittingly inflict on ourselves through self-criticism, self-isolation, or self-absorption.
The course will include discussion of topics, experiential exercises, meditation, small group interaction, and home practices. No prior meditation experience is necessary. We will meet on Saturdays over nine weeks, September 21, 2019–November 16, 2019, 1:00–4:00 pm, (week 6 will be a 1/2 day silent retreat). The course will be lead by David Fredrickson, MSC teacher, and Jessica M. Steurer, MSC teacher in training.
