The Retreat
A silent retreat is a vital way to nourish our personal meditation practice. It is life enhancing for everyone who attends and particularly important for those who work with mindfulness-based interventions.

We invite you to join us in this one-of-a-kind mindfulness retreat in a fascinating beautiful location in Bali, known world-wide for its deep spirituality, stunning natural beauty and long tradition of savoring life.

What’s unique about this retreat? As you know if you have practiced for even a little while, mindfulness (moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness) can be accessed through many doorways: through “formal” practice (silent sitting and walking meditation), and informal practice (awareness of all the wakeful moments of our lives). This retreat will offer an unusual balance of both! We will spend each morning (and some afternoons) in formal practice with guidance from the two highly experienced teachers, while on two afternoons, we will open to the culture of Bali through traditional arts, movement, and time in nature, as well as the exquisite food this venue offers.

In the evenings we will have time to integrate these various paths to peaceful and more joyful living, with talks by the teachers and sharing of our experiences of both formal and informal practice.

In this way we will weave between time in silence and meditation and savoring the wonders of another culture and the beauty of this one “wild and precious life” to quote poet Mary Oliver. Please know that even with the unique aspects of this retreat, it will serve as a very enjoyable way to meet the retreat prerequisite for Mindfulness-Based teacher training.

This retreat will be based on the life-changing and well-researched work of Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff, creators of the Mindful Self Compassion Program, as well as ancient wisdom practice from several traditions. This is an opportunity to renew and deepen your practice of compassion and mindfulness meditation, and live fully in a strong, supportive, and beautiful environment enhanced by silence with the support of experienced teachers. Our attention during this retreat will be on how we can build our resilience and enhance our capacity to meet challenges with equanimity, strength, and compassionate awareness.

Program Details: Much of our time will be spent engaged in sitting and walking meditation with periods of mindful movement. The teachers will offer daily talks and individual meetings with participants (for support and guidance, in the traditional format of a silent meditation retreat), and highlight the foundations of MSC. This retreat is open to anyone who is interested in mindfulness practice, as well as those who have prior meditation experience, especially in programs like Mindful Self-Compassion, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and other mindfulness-based programs.
