Course Navigation

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC): Together, mindfulness and self-compassion comprise a state of warm, connected presence during difficult moments in our lives. Mindfulness is the first step—turning with loving awareness toward difficult experience (thoughts, emotions, and sensations). Self-compassion comes next—bringing loving awareness to ourselves. MSC is co-developed by Dr. Christopher Germer, a senior adviser of the CHA Center for Mindfulness and Compassion. Click here to read more about MSC!

Open to: individuals with all levels of mindfulness and meditation experience, including beginners.

Notes

In this course, Emily guides participants in how to integrate Mindfulness and Self Compassion in a real way that has been life-transforming for many. The Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program was developed by Kristin Neff, a pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion (www.Self-Compassion.org) and Christopher Germer, PhD. Research has shown that self-compassion greatly enhances emotional well-being. It boosts happiness, reduces anxiety and depression, and can even help maintain healthy lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise.

Most of us feel compassion when a close friend is struggling. What would it be like to receive the same caring attention whenever you needed it most? All that’s required is shift in the direction of our attention—recognizing that as a human being, you, too, are a worthy recipient of compassion.

In this program, you’ll learn:

  • how to stop being so hard on yourself
  • how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • how to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
  • how to transform difficult relationships, both old and new
  • mindfulness and self-compassion practices for home and everyday life
  • compassionate body movements
  • the theory and research behind mindful self-compassion
  • how to become your own best teacher

A randomized, controlled trial demonstrated that the MSC program significantly increased self-compassion, compassion for others, mindfulness, and life satisfaction, as well as decreased depression, anxiety and stress. Improvements were linked to how much a person practiced mindfulness and self-compassion in their daily lives.

Cost: $500, including all taxes (10% discount for students or those without employment).

Silent Retreat & workbook included in this price.

Emily Moody (MSW, MFT, MA) is a psychotherapist and couple/family therapist with a longstanding private practice that blends mindfulness-based approach with classical psychotherapy. She has participated in mindfulness training under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, and has been teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course for 7 years. Emily is the author of Thai Yoga Therapy for Your Body Type and has taught mindfulness courses at various educational and health institutes across Montreal. Emily is the process of becoming a Certified MSC teacher under the supervision of Michelle Becker.

Notes

This tender, transformative and potent course will help you learn Mindful Self-Compassion, rather than just learn about MSC.

During the 8 weeks, you will experience meditation, self-inquiry and reflective exercises. You will have the opportunity to listen, learn and contemplate a variety of formal and informal practices to help you befriend the moment, yourself and any difficulties that you face.

This is what my MSC Graduates are saying:

“MSC has absolutely changed my life! It’s the best course I’ve ever done. It’s got into every single part of my life…” Rosa

“I’ve learnt a lot about myself… Investing this time in ‘you’ is more important than I realised.” Kieran
