Imagine learning to treat yourself as you would treat a dear friend in a moment of suffering.
Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is a training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. This upcoming orientation session will give you the opportunity to learn more about Mindful Self-Compassion, understand the benefits of cultivating a Self-Compassion practice, and try out a few foundational practices. Following the orientation, participants will have the opportunity to enroll in the full 8-week program if they wish to do so.
The 8-week MSC program consists of meditations, short talks, experiential exercises and reflections, group discussions and home practices. Over the course of the 8 weeks, participants learn to bring a mindful awareness to difficult moments in their lives and develop the skills to respond with kindness, care, understanding, and wise action. Self-Compassion is a courageous attitude that stands up to harm, including the harm that we unwittingly inflict on ourselves through self-criticism, self-isolation, or self-absorption.
Self-Compassion allows us to motivate ourselves with encouragement rather than self-criticism, befriend our shortcomings, forgive ourselves when needed, care for others while caring for ourselves, and live more authentically. Research shows that Self-Compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, lower levels of anxiety and depression, a healthy relationship to body and food, and more satisfying interpersonal relationships. The MSC program is offered around the globe, but this is the only MSC series currently being offered in the Upstate region.
