I started my working life as a therapeutic masseuse in leafy green Surrey, England. From there I joined British Airways and had 3 roles with them over the next 31 years - including long haul cabin crew and safety training. Alongside this I embarked on my inner journey, which included swimming with dolphins around the world, training in Reflexology, Neurolinguistic Programming and Theta Healing. I had an early interest in Buddhist based Psychotherapy and was nourished by the teachings of Ram Dass, Ken Wilber and A Course in Miracles.
After some exploration I realised the significance of the person Centred approach and the theories of Carl Rogers, which for me are as significant today and they were in the 40’s and 50’s. I attained a first class BA Honours degree in 2014 and practised as a therapist in schools, colleges, university and privately.
Since then I have studied widely in the area of neuroscience, developmental trauma, brain development and the science of compassion. I’m a continuing student of Hakomi and have had a regular mindfulness practise for 5 years. Some of my favourite teachers today are Tara Brach, Bessel Van De Kolk, Gabor Mate, Dan Siegel and Stephen Porges.
I discovered the work of Kristen Neff and Christopher Germer in 2015 and recognised it as a missing link for me. For someone with a really well developed inner critic, I experienced some counter productivity in growing my self-awareness without an explicit effort to develop self compassion.
I’m so happy to now be a trained teacher and to be able to share these greats resources with others.
