I am a retired Women’s Health & Family Nurse Practitioner. I have trained to teach Body-Mind Medicine (James Gordon’s Center for Body-Mind Medicine) as well as Mindful Self-compassion (Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. I am committed to working for healing in the world on all levels.

I took care of women and their families for over 30 years as a Nurse Practitioner. As I journeyed deeper into my practice, it became more and more apparent how much we all need to become more aware of what is going on with us! And once we do pay attention to ourselves - we need to nurture a deep, abiding sense of kindness towards ourselves. As Pema Chodron, Buddhist monk & teacher says, “It is our lack of love for ourselves that limits compassion towards others. If we make friends with ourselves, then there is no obstacle to opening our hearts and minds to others.” As we learn mindful self-compassion for ourselves, it can also help sustain us in our work, our activism and organizing, our relationships and families and in our roles as parents or caretakers.

I hope to offer these practices to folks who may not usually have access, people in recovery, our marginalized brothers, sisters and siblings. I would like to offer the short course to health care workers because the fallout from burn-out and our broken medical system is going to linger for a long time. I plan on offering the short course for women - who have no time to take the 8 week course. I am also interested in exploring with activist and organizing communities what they think would be of use to them in their work, especially around sustainability.
