Erin McCarthy, Ph.D. is a professor, speaker, author and mindfulness teacher. After completing her undergraduate degree in French and Philosophy at Trent University, she went on to complete a Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa, comparing western and eastern views of the self. A professor of philosophy at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, Erin divides her time between her work as a scholar-teacher at the university, conference engagements and her mindfulness teaching in the Ottawa area. Her teaching and writing brings together eastern and western philosophies and practices. She is a member of the The Academy of Mindfulness and Contemplative Studies that is housed within the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute.
A long time meditator, Erin came to mindful self-compassion and mindfulness through her interest in and scholarship on Contemplative Education. She has a particular passion for how mindfulness modalities help in education, parenting and with issues of social justice, and teaches mindful sef-compassion and mindfulness both on campus in Canton, New York and in the Ottawa area. Erin is continually inspired by the transformations that these mindfulness modalities afford their practitioners…herself included!
