I began meditating around the turn of the millennium and fell in love with Chi Gung on retreat in 2012.
I became professionally interested in mindfulness in 2011 and completed a teacher training course with Bangor University, enabling me to teach MBCT and MBSR to the general public since 2012. I really enjoy working with children and young people, so in 2014 I also trained with the Mindfulness in Schools Project and have since been teaching the .b and Paws.b mindfulness courses to 7-18 years, both in schools and one to one private sessions.
In 2014, having been inspired by the work of Kristin Neff and Chris Germer, I trained with them both to become one of the first UK based teachers of the 8 Week Mindful Self Compassion Course. I have now taught over 10 mindful self-compassion courses, both to groups and individuals.
My path to becoming a psychotherapist began with my own, positive experience of therapy and an excitement about how drawing and painting seemed to help me show someone the complexity and depth of my feelings in a way that words never had. I completed an introductory ‘counselling using the arts’ course with the Place2Be project and became a volunteer counsellor for a year. Enjoying this experience immensely, I went on to study for a masters degree in Integrative Child Psychotherapy at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, graduating in 2007.
