Jennifer is a University of Massachusetts Medical School and UC San Diego Medical School—trained mindfulness, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) teacher and mindful self-compassion (MSC) teacher-in-training, and a certified yoga teacher. She founded Ottawa Meditation & Wellness to teach mindfulness, self-compassion to those wanting to live with greater physical and mental ease and well-being. Jennifer’s desire to teach comes from personally experiencing the transformative benefits of these practices.
Jennifer is a highly trained and skilled mindfulness teacher with a broad range of experience working with adults and youth from a variety of backgrounds, including those who suffer from and range of challenges, such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, trauma, as well as those simply looking for new tools to build resilience and meet the stressors inherent in daily life.
She is a dedicated practitioner of insight meditation and has deepened her personal practice through various training, including studies in Buddhism, several silent retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Centre and Insight Meditation Community of Washington. She has had the opportunity to be taught by Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Joseph Goldstein, Kamala Masters, among many others.
Her formal education includes a Master of Science degree in comparative politics from the London School of Economics in the UK, and Bachelor of Arts degrees in both political science and psychology from the University of Ottawa. Prior to teaching mindfulness, Jennifer enjoyed a career in security and intelligence at the Privy Council Office in the Government of Canada.
In her 20s, Jennifer took a year off to travel around the world, mostly in Asia. She has also been a yoga practitioner for more than 20 years. Her interests include a passion for cultivating mind, heart, and body wellness. She loves hiking and cross-country skiing and spending time with her four children (and family dog) who inspire her to be fully present.
