In the present, I am a psychotherapist, writer, editor, and writing facilitator. In the past, I've been an "office temp," urban park ranger, licensed massage therapist, and writer/editor. In my tender years, I did not learn much about what it felt like to have a generosity of heart for one's self and others, and all my life it seemed I searched for pathways that would help me to open my heart while also keeping myself nurtured and steady. I found a number of teachings that were helpful, MSC being a key one.
MSC is not easy work, because many of us struggle with old messages of wrongness and “not enough,” and shame that reaches deep into our bones. It’s beautiful work, because it offers approaches and practices that allow space for suffering, while surrounding it with calm strength and safe open-heartedness.
After taking an intensive MSC training in 2013 with Drs. Kristen Neff and Christopher Germer, I felt a tremendous shift in my own ability to nurture myself, which enabled me to also feel and be kinder towards others. I have been sharing self-compassion practices ever since in group and individual venues, and completed the MSC Teacher's Training in 2015.
I especially enjoy teaching MSC to other health and healing professionals because of the potential for a ripple effect outwards, and because constant exposure to the suffering of others makes it a necessity for us to maintain mindful and compassionate boundaries and practices. My next MSC training for professionals will begin in Autumn of 2020. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in additional information.
