Wendy Schmelzer, LCSW, ACHP-SW
Wendy has been teaching meditation and stress reduction in health and healing environments since 2006. She is a member of InsightLA’s faculty, where she has taught the 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) course since 2014. In addition to teaching MSC at the University of Southern California and the Center for Mindful Living, Wendy was an instructor for five years as part of InsightLA’s VA CALM team, teaching MBSR, MSC and mindfulness and self-compassion workshops to veterans, family caregivers and clinical staff at the Greater Los Angeles Veteran’s Administration.
When not teaching, Wendy is a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker specializing in aging and end of life concerns. She completed a Palliative Care Fellowship at the VA in 2005. And on Wednesday mornings, she teaches InsightLA’s Mindful Aging Group. In an earlier professional life, Wendy was an award-winning Science Correspondent for NPR specializing in aging and health-related issues.
