Meet Your Teachers

Noriko Morita Harth and David Fredrickson are Certified Teachers of Mindful Self-Compassion: highly experienced in teaching both online and in-person.

Noriko Morita Harth

Noriko Morita Harth is a Certified MSC teacher, and a Certified MBSR teacher. Noriko has been teaching MBSR and MSC since 2014. Additionally Noriko offers mentorships, Teacher Training programs, and practicum.

Born in Japan, she moved to the States in 1985. Noriko feels that her life transforming journey of discovering and exploring mindfulness and compassion practices has allowed a more balanced life and identity between these two cultures. Noriko strongly believes practicing mindfulness and compassion, and bringing its principles into her life has and continues to help her grow as a person. She feels passionate about bringing these practices to other people's lives, especially to the BIPOC community. It is her mission to share what she has learned, what she continues to learn to our community. Noriko also offers courses and training programs in Japanese.

David Fredrickson, MFT, Certified MSC Teacher

Psychotherapist, Certified MSC Teacher, and author, David Fredrickson has worked with and learned from underserved and traumatized communities including at-risk children and families, the LGBTQIA+ community, and those affected by HIV/AIDS. Following his own health crisis, activated by caregiver fatigue, David discovered that his care often did not include himself. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) became part of his own healing and as a MSC teacher he is committed to bringing this powerful balm to others. He is a MSC teacher trainer and was honored to be part of Chris Germer’s development team for the Self-Compassion for Shame Course.

Registration Closes July 13th, 2027 at 3pm PT

  • Prerequisites

Must have completed a CMSC Teacher Training course.

  • When to take the TTP

The TTP has been mandatory since January of 2020 for all trainees who wish to become Trained MSC Teachers. The TTP is primarily designed to take place after your residential or online teacher training and before your first teaching experience. If you started your teacher training after January 2020, the TTP is required before you start teaching your first 8-week MSC course.

  • Overview

The TTP provides new teachers with a “laboratory” to find their own voices and to continue to practice what they learned during the Residential/Live Online Teacher Training course, with time between each session to review, prepare and reflect on the process of teaching MSC. This cohort model allows participants the unique opportunity to build an environment of safety and support among colleagues as a source of encouragement and assistance long after the practicum ends.

Each week focuses on a single MSC session and all trainees come prepared to teach each session in its entirety just as you would prepare a whole class if you were teaching your own group. Please note that this represents a considerable time investment! Trainees are then assigned to lead the various practices, topics and exercises of that session, with periods of feedback and discussion - so no one trainee will be teaching the entire class, usually at most just one piece each session but preparing the whole class is invaluable learning and preparation for becoming an MSC Teacher and is an integral part of the Practicum training.

  • Your Commitment

Please plan to attend all 10 sessions. For successful completion of the TTP, attendance at all 10 sessions is required. In the case of an unplanned issue, you will need to address it with your Senior Practicum Trainer for negotiation.

All TTPs are held online via the Zoom platform and each weekly session is 2.5 hours duration. Full instruction will be given on how to log in and prepare for your first session approximately one week before the start date.
